Leading Saints 29 September at 15:21 With the ever-evolving changes in how we interact and meet during th.It was so numb that it felt like someone else's arm was attached to my body. I rolled over and quickly felt the blood flow and soon the feeling was restored. After that, I couldn't fall back to sleep. So I got up and sat in front of my computer with the intent to write a newsletter message. The mental juices weren't flowing and no words came. I felt sleepiness return so I lay back in my bed. Before I knew it I was dreaming. I was in a chapel ready to present an hour-long fireside to a packed room. I had the projector set up and it was displaying a slide presentation that would allow me to show various quotes and video clips during my presentation. I began to start my presentation and one of my kids' Disney cartoons started to play on the screen and the audio was uncomfortably loud. I rushed to my computer and it seemed that anything I tried to do made it worse.http://cambariere.com/wallpapers/el-paso-chile-company-frozen-drink-station-manual.xml

The interruption of my presentation was going on for a long time and I suddenly felt awkward as everyone was staring at me as I tried to figure out what was wrong with my computer. Feeling hopeless and frustrated I figured I would just move on with the presentation without my computer. But as I returned to the front of the chapel I realized I was wearing only my underwear. I rushed over to the side of the chapel behind the sacrament table hoping to hide. I guess I had an extra pair of gym shorts in my bag because I suddenly was stepping into them behind the sacrament table. Suddenly I woke up. My stomach was full of anxiety and I was relieved to know that it was all a dream and I could relax again and fall back to sleep. So what does this dream have to do with a leadership newsletter? Where is the leadership lesson? Good question. Maybe I could connect it to the fact that all leaders have bad days (or months or years) where nothing seems to go right. Or maybe I should allow you, the Leading Saints audience, to interpret my dream for me. Please reply with any ideas.:). Simply put, we are living in an awkward time when anything we do doesn't seem to run as smoothly as it used to. The more we strive to plan for the future the more things seem to break down. So instead of an interpretation, I'd like to end this message with a question. As a leader, what is the anxiety that is closest to the surface when you wake up in the morning? Sincerely. Anne Wingate 5.0 out of 5 stars He worked hard literally for all his life, while trying to teach and encourage people to make themselves better Christians and better human beings. When it became obvious that he would soon be President of the Church, there was a lot of dismay from people who thought he would be devisive; instead, his goal was to reclaim people who had for any reason left the Church. He was man of faith and love, and we were fortunate to have him as President of the Church for as long as we did. Benson, who was appointed by Brigham Young a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1846. When he was 12 years old, his father was called as a missionary to the midwestern United States, leaving his expectant mother alone with seven children. That year he married Flora Smith Amussen, shortly after her return from a mission in Hawaii. They had six children together. He later became the county agriculture extension agent for Oneida County, Idaho. He later was promoted to the supervisor of all county agents and moved to Boise in 1930.He also founded a farmers cooperative. Benson was superintendent of the Boise Stake Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association and later a counselor in the stake presidency.Because Kimball was ordained first, he was given seniority over Benson in the Quorum. Upon Kimball's death in 1985, Benson became the president of the church in his place.Although Benson had supported his distant cousin Robert A. Taft over Dwight D. Eisenhower for the 1952 Republican nomination and did not know Eisenhower, after his election Eisenhower nevertheless appointed Benson as Secretary of Agriculture. He was selected as the administrator-designate of the Emergency Food Agency, part of a secret group that became known as the Eisenhower Ten. The group was created by Eisenhower in 1958 to serve in the event of a national emergency.Benson retained Gordon B. Hinckley, who had been Kimball's second counselor, as his first counselor and chose Thomas S. Monson as his second counselor. He started in 1918 as assistant Scoutmaster. On May 23, 1949, he was elected a member of the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America. He was ultimately rendered unable to speak due to the strokes he suffered. One of Benson's last appearances during which he spoke was at his 90th birthday celebration in 1989. Benson made his final public appearance at the funeral of his wife Flora in 1992. He was hospitalized in 1992 and 1993 with pneumonia.Funeral services were held June 4, 1994, in the Salt Lake Tabernacle and were conducted by Hinckley. Benson was buried near his birthplace in Whitney, Idaho, at the Whitney City Cemetery. Following Benson's funeral, Howard W. Hunter succeeded him as church president.Deseret Book Company. The Black Hammer: A Study of Black Power, Red Influence and White Alternatives. Foreword by Ezra Taft Benson. Deseret Book. 1969. I keep thinking about this.President Benson felt the sin of pride was misunderstood and taught “there is no such thing as righteous pride.... Most of us think of pride as self-centeredness, conceit, boastfulness, arrogance, or haughtiness. All of these are elements of the sin, but the heart, or core, is still missing. “The central feature of pride is enmity—enmity toward God and enmity toward our fellowmen. President Benson explained the way to overcome pride is by learning to be humble. He stated, “The antidote for pride is humility—meekness, submissiveness.Use a broom or mop handle for the bar and gradually move it lower to see who can bend the lowest to get under without falling over. After playing the game, discuss pride and its remedy, humility. Tell family members sometimes being humble can be difficult. Emphasize that most of the people were so prideful of their own capabilities they thought they could build their tower tall enough to reach heaven. It was only humility that allowed Jared’s people to be able to communicate with each other. Additional Resources: 1. Love God, love your brothers and sisters, give selfless service, forgive, confess and repent of our sins, and be open to counsel are some practical applications the New Era published to help individuals be more humble. As of this morning, we know all of them and then some Lindsey Williams. The site may not work properly if you don't update your browser. I still take that to heart, and it is one of the great talks I refer to. I remember the state of the church before he became president and the state after. He was dealing with some very serious issues, and it seems he was able to change them, at least in our neck of the woods, even though he was president a short time. We looked up to President Benson. He was a polarizing figure. He cut the church down the middle, and was like Moroni would've been. He is often derided by people because of his outspoken stance against communism, but where was he wrong. Communism is and was a plague against the gospel and liberty. He showed us how we can and should change the world, and as far as I can tell, we're sending missionaries to countries we thought would never be open in our lifetimes. He was effective in that regard. We would be wise to ignore his critics and listen to what he had to say with an open heart and mind. All rights reserved Back to top. For example, during 2015, Mormons worldwide will be studying the sermons of President Ezra Taft Benson. While the LDS study manual places no emphasis on the leader’s outdated paranoid politics or racist behavior, I wonder if he is really the person we want as the current exemplar of our faith. For President Benson, his religion and his politics were deeply intertwined, and in many cases inseparable. According to a write up in the sltrib.com. A Texas oilman, H Bunker Hunt, gave the Birch Society money to promote Benson at the head of a national ticket, which was to also feature segregationist Strom Thurmond as veep. At the same time George Wallace’s openly racist presidential campaign made no bones about the fact that Benson was high on its list of vice-presidential hopefuls. By glorifying a sanitized version of President Benson’s message, aren’t we legitimizing his severely outdated political and racial beliefs? Bookmark the permalink. And she was a democrat. She saved articles and clippings which I have in turn saved. To this day I love rereading them. Coincidentally, last week I was reading a clipping which she saved from The Salt Lake Tribune Opinion page, dated October 31, 2000. The heading: Mormon Democrats. Included was a few paragraphs referencing Benson, including the following: They recall former church President Ezra Taft Benson, who as a Mormon apostle in the mid-1970s said he thought it would be difficult for a faithful Mormon to also be a liberal Democrat.” It was not an expression of doctrine or churchwide emphasis, but the expression of a long politically active apostle of conservative bent who never was known to shrink from offering his thoughts on matters political.” Are members prepared to take his teachings in the right (or middle of the road, lol) context?
